Bridgeport #714 Delivers Welcome Home Kits to Veterans

Bridgeport Elks Lodge #714, delivering Welcome Home Kits to Veterans moving out of shelters to their own places with the help of Philadelphia VA & their HUD-VASH Dept.

 The kits are made up of an array of home supplies that the veteran selects from the list of needs.

There is no single reason why a veteran is homeless.

In addition to the complex set of factors influencing all homelessness- shortage of affordable housing, unemployment or job insecurity, health or family emergencies- a large number of displaced and at risk veterans live with lingering effects of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse, which are compounded by a lack of family and social support networks.

  Our Elks pledge "So long as there are veterans, the Elks will never forget them." We take that pledge one step further and promise service to our nation's veterans and military members with a special focus on service to those in need.
